AJET Call for Papers for 2016 Special Issue

“Brain, mind and education: Understanding learning in digital environments”

This special issue invites papers from education, neuroscience, cognitive science, psychology, and computer science researchers and seeks to show how collaboration between these disciplines is fundamental to furthering our understanding of tertiary education and learning in both online and blended learning settings.

The submission deadline is 29 January 2016 and full details are available here.

International Conference on Information Communication Technologies in Education

ICICTE 2016 takes place in Rhodes, Greece from 7 – 9 July and submissions are open for paper proposals to be submitted by 19 February 2016.  The conference seeks to address the many challenges and new directions presented by technological innovations in educational settings and will bring together an international community of scholars and practitioners in a forum setting.

ICICTE invites papers, workshops and posters in a number of general themes, but also suggests a number of specialised themes that can be explored by its participants.

The conference’s social programs have always brought Greek hospitality to the fore of our meetings and discussions. This year’s social program includes the opening night reception, the closing ‘Greek Night’ dinner and two lunches.

ICICTE 2016 is organised by Southampton Solent University, United Kingdom.

Position Vacant: Educational Design Specialist, Hong Kong Polytechnic University

The Educational Development Centre at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University is seeking an Educational Design Specialist to be appointed at the substantive level of Senior Project Fellow / Project Fellow. The appointment period is 24 months.

The University has been awarded project funding to develop and provide systematic and structured online and blended professional development opportunities for higher education institutions across Hong Kong to develop teachers’ skills of online and blended teaching. The Blended & Online Learning & Teaching (BOLT) Project aims to work in synergy and collaboratively with academic staff from five Hong Kong ong Kong institutions to design a unique and an authentic learning experience that will help to develop a professional learning community between educational developers and academic teaching staff.

The appointee will be required to:

  • design relevant resources including curriculum, content and assessment activities to facilitate and support academic staff in their continuing professional development of using learning technology for their teaching;
  • coordinate, lead and facilitate the BOLT project team to deliver, moderate and assess the professional development opportunities offered by the project;
  • provide consultation and expertise to the project team, faculties, departments and individual academic staff members in relation to the project within and outside the University;
  • participate in the managing of data related to the evaluation and impact of the BOLT project;
  • work collaboratively with other members of the project team; and
  • contribute to all aspects of the project and associated tasks as directed by the project leader.

For the post of Senior Project Fellow, applicants should have a doctoral degree plus at least six years of postdoctoral research experience or equivalent qualifications and Post experience. For the post of Project Fellow, applicants should have a doctoral degree plus at least three years of postdoctoral research experience or equivalent qualifications and experience.

For both posts, applicants should also have:

  • proven competence and experience in supporting teaching staff in their use of learning technologies (e.g. consultations, workshops and courses);
  • expertise in the use of innovative technologies for e-learning development and knowledge of learning management system (e.g. Blackboard and Moodle); and
  • excellent communication, consultation and interpersonal skills with a high level of proficiency in written and spoken English.

Preference will be given to those with professional qualifications in a relevant area (e.g. FHEA and CMALT) and experience in supporting and teaching via online or blended approaches.

Postions Vacant: Mobile Learning, La Trobe University

1. Mobile Learning Designer (Digital Learning)

Location: Melbourne (Bundoora)
Full Time, 2 year Fixed Term Contract
La Trobe University

This position will provide leadership within LTLT and across the university in developing and implementing strategies and pedagogies that leverage mobile technologies and content. It will also have responsibility for the management of projects within LTLT and across the university to support the achievement of the University’s targets in blended and online curriculum design and technology enhanced learning.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and apply new principles and mobile technologies and pedagogies in order to support University programs.
  • Manage, develop, review or evaluate curriculum and learning designs.
  • Identify trends, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and risks in mobile and educational technologies and setting and reviewing longer term performance goals, criteria and objectives.
  • Conceptualise, develop and review major objectives and strategies relating to mobile educational technologies involving high level liaison and consultation with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee a number of concurrent projects and negotiate solutions by working closely with a wide range of relevant stakeholders.

2. Mobile Developer (Digital learning)

The strategy also reflects the University’s commitment to equitable access for all students to distinctive, relevant and high quality courses that will ensure they are work ready, world ready and future ready. The Digital Learning team in LTLT supports the University in pursing this strategy, particularly in the area of innovations. This position will provide leadership within LTLT and across the university in developing new technologies and implementing strategies that leverage mobile technologies and content.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and implement strategies and programs involving mobile educational technologies including apps, podcasts and interactive resources.
  • Manage significant programs which develop, review and evaluate significant initiatives in innovation involving mobile technologies.
  • Identify trends, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and risks in mobile and/or educational technologies.
  • Propose and implement changes to work processes and develop and define proposals for change.
  • Manage technical and/or professional staff as required and advise on and establish priorities, programs and budgets.
